Inflatable dunnage bags are composed of inner polyethylene bag with high flow valve that is surrounded by layers of Kraft paper or woven pp material. The role of the inner polyethylene bag is to keep air inside, while the strength of the bag depends on the surrounding layers. Each dunnage bag has a print on it with size, type, instructions, serial number and date of manufacture. If you will ever face problems with our bags, please relate to serial number and date of manufacture.
Dunnage bags are inflated with air that can come from a compressor, high pressure air system or portable blower. Air should be inflated through recommended inflator that is placed in the high flow valve. Dunnage bag has to be placed in desired place and inflated so it can fill the existing gap between the cargos.
To inflate the bags please position the bag in desired void, put the inflator into the valve and start pumping air. Please use recommended inflators. Dunnage bag should be inflated to a point when it starts to exercise its force onto the cargo. You will observe it by looking at the cargo or hearing the sound of it being moved. Well located Dunnage bag is a strong and reliable solution that will exercise massive protective force against the cargo. Degree of inflation depends on type of cargo and other factors. Solid objects or boxes will require less pressure from the bag then granulated or soft cargo that might have tendency to settle during the inflation process.
After inflating, remove the inflator and stop the air flow from the compressor or portable blower. With inflator in the valve, the valve remains open so we recommend this sequence. If more air needs to be pumped just connect the inflator and repeat the process. When ready close the cap to avoid dirt getting into the valve. The cap is not intended to be air tight. If you need to deflate the bag, press the inner part of the valve. Valve can also be permanently opened with inner part being rotated, with reversing the rotation it will work and close again.
The largest recommended gap to be filled by a 90cm wide dunnage bag is around 40cm, up to this value the bag maintains the planned and tested strength. For 120cm wide bags this will be a gap of around 60cm. The illustrations below show the differences in the contact surface with the load of 90cm wide bags with gaps of 15cm, 35cm, 45cm and 50cm. Remember that the bag cannot expand indefinitely, after reaching a critical value, further filling results in the explosion of the bag.
Dunnage bags should not be higher than the protected cargo or longer when bag is used in sleeping position. Bags should not be in major contact with the floor to prevent abrasion damages. The surface of the cargo should be flat without parts that are sharp or are sticking out.
